On Saturday, Nov. 7, downtown Napa has two free celebrations, and their hours overlap. First Street Napa's Harvest Hoedown runs from 12:30 to 5 p.m. The City of Napa's Día de los Muertos opens at Veterans Park and Brown Street at 3 p.m. and runs until 8. For two hours, both are going at once.
The Hoedown is about more than harvest. It's the grand opening of a new tenant at First Street Napa, and it falls six days before another tenant there closes its doors. The city's own celebration runs alongside it, which makes Nov. 7 the day downtown's fall calendar and First Street's change of tenants happen together.
First Street Napa's announcement calls the Harvest Hoedown a celebration of "another incredible Napa Valley harvest season and the grand opening of Lucchese Bootmaker's first California store." Back in July, the City of Napa's business update described Lucchese's Suite 202 location as its first and only California store and said it would open "in the fall." The store sits across from Don Perico, according to Visit Napa Valley's event listing.
The program fits a Texas bootmaker's arrival. It's country through and through, with local touches throughout:
The event is free and open to all ages. The sponsor list leans local. Alongside Lucchese, it names the Downtown Napa Association, Visit Napa Valley, the Napa Chamber of Commerce, Archer Hotel Napa, Blue Diamond Jeweler, Napa Fragrance, John Anthony Vineyards and Eikos.
At 3 p.m., with the Hoedown still going, the City's Día de los Muertos opens at Veterans Park and Brown Street, listed at 800 Main St. City of Napa Parks and Recreation hosts it. Visit Napa Valley's listing describes it as a family-friendly celebration of art, tradition, music, dance and food. On the event's own DoNapa page, organizers say they want Napa's community to "feel seen and heard," with the spirit of the day "driven by cultural awareness, understanding, and acceptance."
According to napa.fyi, the main stage is at Veterans Park, with a smaller second stage on Brown Street. There's also a community ofrenda, art, and the La Katrina Parade from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Admission is free. The City published application forms for community altars and for art vendors. The City of Napa's event page is the place to check for any day-of updates.
Here are all the times in one place:
| Time | Where | What |
|---|---|---|
| 12:30 to 5 p.m. | First Street Napa, 1300 First St. | Harvest Hoedown and Lucchese grand opening |
| 3 to 8 p.m. | Veterans Park and Brown Street, 800 Main St. | Día de los Muertos, two stages and community ofrenda |
| 5 to 8 p.m. | Tonewood & Courage, First Street Napa, Suite 212 | Hoedown after-show with New Rivertown Ramblers |
| 5:30 to 6 p.m. | Veterans Park and Brown Street | La Katrina Parade |
From 3 to 5 p.m., both celebrations are running. Once the Hoedown wraps, its music moves indoors to Tonewood & Courage, which has New Rivertown Ramblers, drinks and pizza from 5 to 8 p.m. Tonewood & Courage is a guitar shop and live-music room in Suite 212, on the promenade behind the Archer Hotel and next to Deuces Market. Its website points visitors to free parking at the Pearl Street Garage. It isn't a newcomer. DoNapa reported it as recently opened in its fall 2024 roundup, so the after-show is in a room that has two years of First Street music nights behind it.
Both of the evening programs end at 8 p.m.
The week after the Hoedown shows the other side of First Street's turnover. Riza Plants, which calls itself Napa's "botanical boutique," closes its shop in Suite 355 on Friday, Nov. 13, the Napa Valley Register reported. Riza opened at First Street Napa in October 2020, so the closing comes about six years in.
The business isn't leaving the valley. According to the Register, it is moving into plant design, installation, maintenance and rentals under the name Riza Indoor Plant Maintenance and Design Studio. Founder and CEO Alyssa Piombo told the Register that the commercial "planterior design work has grown so much that we are putting all of our energy into it." She added that a studio opening in November will serve wineries, hotels and businesses throughout Napa Valley, and will continue to offer workshops and event rentals. The closing sale began Oct. 14, so the Hoedown is one of the last weekends to buy from the shop before it closes.
Lucchese and Riza aren't the only changes. Over this fall and winter, the complex is turning over storefronts and office suites alike:
So the Hoedown welcomes Lucchese while one retail tenant prepares to leave, a pop-up has taken a suite for the winter, and the offices upstairs are lined up for a new operator next year.
Twelve days after the Hoedown, the holiday events begin. On Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., Shop, Sip & Stroll at SoFi Second Street returns as part of its every-third-Thursday schedule. A $10 wristband includes a glass and pours at participating locations.
The same day, the season opens at The Meritage Resort, outside downtown. According to DoNapa's calendar, Merry Meritage's outdoor ice rink, which the resort calls Napa Valley's largest, runs Nov. 19 through Jan. 3. The calendar lists rinkside cabins and private fire pits for the same stretch, and the resort's tree lighting, with a 40-foot tree, is on Nov. 21.
By then, Riza's First Street shop will have closed and Lucchese will be less than two weeks into its first California season.
Seasonal turnover like this, with one shop arriving and another moving on in the same week, is what our team watches across the valley and Marin, where a well-timed debut matters as much as the space itself. If you're thinking about how and when to present your own Napa property, Krystow & Kemp would be glad to talk it through. Request a complimentary home valuation and bespoke listing consultation, and we'll start with what the season ahead looks like for your home.
